J.J. Keller & Associates has introduced Right Turns, Left Turns and Intersections: A Guide to Tight Spots and Dangerous Crossings, a training program available on DVD or VHS designed to train tractor-trailer drivers on accident prevention techniques related to turning and crossing intersections.
A closed-captioned video demonstrates turn and intersection techniques for a variety of situations, including city and rural driving, single and multi-lane roads, narrow streets, one-way streets and roundabouts. The video uses animation, narration and live footage to explore common problem areas and hazards, as well as to communicate straightforward instructions for executing maneuvers more safely. Topics include anticipating blind spots, using mirrors, allowing for off-tracking, speed and space management, route planning, intersection etiquette and hazard perception.
In addition to the video, the program includes a trainer’s preparation guide with presentation tips, ideas for getting drivers involved, and a 10-question quiz with answer key; 11 driver skills cards featuring left- and right-turn “do’s and don’ts” and intersection procedures; and two illustrated posters that reinforce key concepts. A Trainer’s Tools CD-ROM contains a 40-question quiz bank and answer key, transparency masters, clip art, awareness posters and a training log. These tools can be used as-is or customized; text can also be transferred into PowerPoint presentations.
