Saia has been presented with the 2006 Transportation Provider of the Year Award by Borders Group, a global retailer of books, music and movies with more than 1,200 Borders and Waldenbooks stores worldwide. The award is based on criteria measured by Borders Group representatives and applied to all of the company’s transportation providers with the goal of continuous improvement in performance and efficiency in supply chain.

“Saia has been an integral solutions and service provider that has contributed significantly to the success of our company’s supply chain initiatives,” says Fred Boehler, director of supply chain for Borders Group. “We have an extremely competitive group of vendors, and this award is a testament to Saia’s dedication and attention to the criteria we have set for outstanding performance.”

The award recognizes carrier performance and delivery of superior client service and value. Selections are made based on a quantitative scoring system that includes on-time service, claims performance, customer service, technology, economic value and innovation.

“Borders Group’s supply chain professionals have developed one of the most comprehensive performance scorecards in the industry,” said Rick O’Dell, president and chief executive officer of Duluth, Ga.-based LTL carrier Saia. “With the high standards and intense competition among a very strong group of transportation providers, our award as Transportation Provider of the Year is particularly meaningful. It is great to share this recognition with so many Saia employees that provide outstanding service to Borders Group each week, all year long.”
