Pacer International, a North American freight transportation and logistics provider, has been named Supply Chain Provider of the Year by the J.C. Penney Co. The award is the retailer’s top corporate award for a third-party logistics supplier.

Pacer supports the entire distribution process for J.C. Penney’s imported Asian products as they enter the Los Angeles-Long Beach gateway, providing a variety of services, including harbor drayage, container freight station and air freight pickup, domestic vendor pickup, consolidation and warehousing, and cross-dock work. Pacer also supplies transportation to many of J.C. Penney’s distribution centers using intermodal, highway and rail modes.

The award recognizes Pacer for its performance in six key categories: dependability as a strategic partner, flexibility in dealing with shifting conditions and priorities, a sense of urgency in responding to J.C. Penney requests, the breadth of its support capabilities, the company’s effectiveness during the 2005 peak shipping season, and excellence of execution.

J.C. Penney, based in Plano, Texas, operates more than 1,000 department stores, the nation’s largest general merchandise catalog business and jcp.com. The company’s partnership with Pacer dates back about 30 years.
