Landstar System announced that two of its business capacity owners have been awarded 2006 Safe Driver of the Year awards from the National Safety Council. Landstar BCOs Diane Benjamin and Scotty Collett each earned the NSC 2006 Safe Driver of the Year award in their respective categories – Collett in the tractor-trailer division and Benjamin in the under 10,000-pound Sprinter category.

“The National Safety Council is proud to honor Scotty Collett and Diane Benjamin for their outstanding driving records and their ongoing commitment to safe driving,” says Alan C. McMillan, National Safety Council president and chief executive officer. Awards were presented to drivers in 23 different categories; each driver’s record, as self-reported and documented by their company, was reviewed and evaluated by the NSC Safe Driver Committee. Those awarded had the best driving record in the country for that particular category, based on the total number of years and miles or hours behind the wheel, number of accidents and type of vehicle driven.

“We’re extremely proud to be associated with Scotty and Diane and proud of their accomplishments,” says Henry Gerkens, Landstar president and CEO. “Their professionalism and driving skills exemplify the discipline and focus on safety that Landstar business capacity owners display every day. We appreciate that the National Safety Council has recognized them both as among the safest and best professional truck operators on our roads.”
