Transportation Costing Group, a provider of Profitability Management Tools and activity-based cost analysis for the transportation industry, has announced that Averitt Express has adopted the company’s LTL Cost Information System (LTL/CIS). In addition, Averitt also is adopting TCG’s TL Cost Information System (TL/CIS) for the company’s truckload service unit.

Mark Davis, vice president of pricing and traffic for Cookeville, Tenn.-based Averitt, says the carrier selected TCG’s products because Averitt’s existing system lacked the detailed cost analysis capabilities the company required. “We were interested in the development of motor carrier costing capabilities and found that many industry-leading carriers were using the TCG system,” Davis says. “After a number of presentations — and participating in TCG’s user’s group meeting where we heard about the benefits of CIS from other users — it was obvious that TCG’s system would be our choice for a costing software upgrade.”

A number of features of TCG’s CIS solutions were attractive to Averitt, including the system’s ability to calibrate results to the carrier’s general ledger to provide specific and accurate costs, and to give credibility to the results; the system also provides the capability to allocate overhead costs in a specific, accurate manner. In addition, the carrier cites TCG’s extensive reporting capabilities, including profitability analysis segmented by customer, service center, lane, sales representative, shipment size and numerous other factors.

“As we continue to implement the CIS solutions into our operation, and complete our start-up and training, we have also found that TCG’s excellent reputation for providing support and meeting custom programming needs is well deserved,” Davis says. “We look forward to fully utilizing the system and to realizing the many benefits we anticipate it will provide.”

TCG’s TL/CIS and LTL/CIS solutions provide accurate, specific cost information for pricing; and traffic, profitability and operations/productivity analysis, says Ken Manning, president of Rockville, Md.-based TCG. “Averitt Express is poised to benefit from its use of this highly effective tool for measuring and managing profitability,” Manning says. “We are very pleased to be able to meet their needs.”
