Indianapolis-based accounting firm Katz, Sapper & Miller LLP is partnering with Knoxville, Tenn.-based CFOex Inc. to form a unit that will advise the transportation industry on mergers and acquisitions. CFOex founder Bruce Jones will head the unit, which will be called KSM Transport Advisors LLC.

KSM Transport Advisors will combine Katz Sapper’s tax, accounting and business-valuation capabilities with Jones’ 30 years in the industry. Services will include advising middle-market trucking companies on mergers and acquisitions, helping to find financing for those deals and improving profit. The new venture will rely on existing Katz Sapper employees rather than new hires.

Prior to forming CFOex in 1998, Jones served as managing director of a transportation merger-and-acquisition firm. He also was chief financial officer for J.B. Hunt Transport Services and treasurer of Schneider National. Katz Sapper, founded in 1942, employs 170 people.
