Most of the nation saw relief from rising diesel costs as the national average price per gallon dropped more than 3 cents for the week ending Monday, Aug. 21. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the average price was $3.033, or 44.5 cents more than in the same week last year.

Every region showed decreases except for the West Coast and the Rocky Mountains, where prices hit $3.237 and $3.349, respectively. Dropping by more than 6 cents, prices in the East Coast managed to slip below $3 for the first time in two weeks. However, the Lower Atlantic saw the largest decrease, going from $2.964 to $2.890; drivers in that region are paying the least for diesel fuel, while those in the Rocky Mountains continue to pay more than any other region.
