PrePass and BestPass announced Friday at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas a single package for owner-operators and fleets with fewer than five trucks that enables them to save money using a single transponder device for bypassing weigh stations and toll collection.

“Each day, carriers waste valuable time and money at toll booths and weigh stations,” said Bill Joyce, BestPass chief executive officer. “Carriers still paying cash for tolls may be spending up to 30 percent more than necessary, as well as wasting time and fuel.”

PrePass allows qualified motor carriers to comply electronically with state weight, safety and credential requirements at highway speeds. BestPass offers increased toll savings on the Ohio Turnpike as well as the E-ZPass tolls on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, New York Thruway and Maryland toll bridges.

Savings using the cooperative package range between 5 percent to 30 percent over cash on tolls and about $5 per weigh station stop when considering time loss and fuel consumption, according to Tommy Holst, PrePass director of sales.

Carriers enrolling before Sept. 30 will enjoy the first month of bypassing weigh stations at no charge.
