Knight Transportation announced Monday, Oct. 23, that it has completed a $15.6 million purchase of most of the trucking assets of Roads West Transportation. Roads West, based in Phoenix, has between $25 million and $30 million in annual sales, plus 110 company-employed drivers and 45 owner-operators, according to Knight.

“Roads West has a long history in the refrigerated market and also operates dry van and brokerage divisions,” says Kevin Knight, chief executive officer of Phoenix-based Knight. “For the past several years, Roads West has leased space from Knight at our Phoenix terminal, so we are familiar with their leadership and operations. Based on the company’s profile and our knowledge of their operations, we expect a good fit with Knight.”

The purchase — which Knight says could increase to $16 million based on future performance — includes 133 tractors, 280 trailers and miscellaneous other assets. Roads West President Casey Hughes and his team will continue to manage the business as a separate operation, Knight says.
