The associates of freight transportation provider Averitt Express recently donated $200,000 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in conjunction with the 10th annual St. Jude Cancer Survivors Conference.

Hundreds of cancer survivors attended the Oct. 14 conference, including Averitt Express associate and former St. Jude patient Ginger Nichols. “I have such fond memories of St. Jude, and I was overwhelmed with emotions when I returned to the hospital for Survivors’ Day,” said Nichols, who was referred to the hospital at the age of 2 after being diagnosed with retinoblastoma, or cancer of the retina.

Averitt associates have given to St. Jude over the past 20 years through their employee giving program, Averitt Cares. To date, they have contributed more than $1.5 million to benefit patients being treated for cancer and other childhood catastrophic illnesses by endowing the Leukemia and Lymphoma Clinic at St. Jude.
