Oregon police checking for chains

This winter, Oregon State Police will inspect trucks on selected mountain passes to see that they have the proper number of chains.

Mountain passes identified for increased enforcement include:

  • Interstate 5 – Sexton Mountain (between Roseburg and Grants Pass)
  • Interstate 84 – Weatherby Exchange and Threemile Hill (between Baker City and Ontario)
  • Highway 140 – Doak Mountain and Seldom Hill (near Lake of the Woods)
  • Highway 97 – Spring Creek Hill (north of Chiloquin)

Police conducted a one-day enforcement effort at certain problematic mountain passes Nov. 14 after receiving a $40,000 grant from the state transportation department, said Sgt. Alan Hageman of the OSP Patrol Services Division.
