Owner-operators and small fleets in Pennsylvania and Delaware have until Jan. 15 to apply for grants that will help outfit 16 trucks with auxiliary power units.

Applicants who own 50 trucks or fewer and are residents of either state may apply for up to $3,000 off purchase and installation of an APU, says Alex Hense, a spokesman for the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, which is administering the grants.

The Mid-Atlantic Regional Air Management Association, an association of 10 state and local air-pollution control agencies, received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant and will determine eligibility. Organizers hope to outfit one truck per applicant and distribute awards evenly between Pennsylvania and Delaware, Hense says.
