CFI, an international truckload carrier based in Joplin, Mo., has announced that Steve Whipkey has been promoted to director of fuel and facility maintenance, and that Troy Robertson has been named director of benefits and claims/general counsel.

Whipkey started with CFI in 1994 as fuel coordinator and in 1998 was promoted to fuel manager. In 2000, Whipkey was given responsibility for the company’s purchasing functions and was promoted to manager of purchasing and fuel. In 2004, Steve was given additional duties to oversee CFI’s license and permit responsibilities. In addition to continuing to oversee those areas, Whipkey’s new duties include environmental compliance, daily maintenance of existing facilities and the supervision of new site construction for the company.

Robertson now will oversee legal affairs in addition to managing CFI’s government affairs at the state and federal level. He also will have responsibility for benefits and workers compensation and will serve the safety-claims groups in an advisory capacity. A licensed attorney and a member of the Missouri Bar, Robertson joined CFI in 2000 as a management trainee. Prior to coming to CFI, he worked for Anderson Consulting and Yellow Freight System.
