Applications for the Truck Renting and Leasing Association’s annual Driver of the Year contest, sponsored by Goodyear Tire and Rubber, are due Jan. 10.

For two decades, TRALA has held the competition to recognize not only excellence in truck driving, but also factors such as years of experience and community involvement. For example, the 2006 winner, Jerry Brown of Jonesville, N.C., not only had 2.9 million safe miles over a 31-year career, but also had been a volunteer firefighter for 22 years; he also was a Relay for Life volunteer and drove a van for handicapped members of Fall Creek Baptist Church.

Winners will be announced during the organization’s annual meeting March 21-24 in Palm Springs, Calif. The winner and his or her spouse will travel to the meeting at the association’s expense to be honored at the event’s closing dinner March 23. The driver also will receive a cash prize.

Drivers must be nominated by one of the more than 600 TRALA member companies. For a PDF of the application, click here. For more information, e-mail Anne Riser, TRALA’s event director.
