An employee of Covenant Transport reportedly has been charged with stealing trade secrets from the trucking firm. According to the Chattanoogan website, authorities said they found a folder with Covenant’s Top 100 customers in a vehicle belonging to Brandon Matthew Simmons, 25, of Trenton, Ga.
Simmons is charged with theft of trade secrets and is due to appear in general sessions court on Thursday, Feb. 15, at 1:30 p.m., the website reported. A night operations supervisor told police he suspected that Simmons was stealing company records and customer information, according to the website; another employee said Simmons was believed to be using and dealing in drugs at the Covenant worksite in Lookout Valley, Tenn.
Police called a K-9 officer to the trucking firm, and a dog “hit” on the Simmons vehicle, the website reported; the vehicle was searched, and the folder containing the trade secrets was found. Police told the Chattanoogan that Simmons admitted taking the records and said he had planned to use them to start brokering for himself.
