The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Midwest Clean Diesel Initiative has $300,000 in grants available this year for projects in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.
The proposal deadline for projects to reduce diesel emissions is Sept. 18, and final awards are expected to be made about Jan. 1. Proposals may include diesel exhaust retrofits, vehicle replacement, idle reduction technologies or strategies for the use of cleaner-burning fuels such as biodiesel. Owner-operators and fleets are eligible for the EPA grants, but school buses are excluded.
The request for proposals is at www.grants.gov and www.epa.gov/midwestcleandiesel. The title of the announcement is Midwest Clean Diesel Initiative. For more information, e-mail Steve Marquardt of the EPA.
