Contract Freighters Inc. announced today, Dec. 3, that United Sugars Corp. has recognized it with a 2007 Carrier Service Award. United Sugars – the second-largest sugar marketing organization in the United States – presented the award at a recent ceremony in Fargo, N.D.
“This award is a testament to the success of our relationship with United Sugars,” says Herb Schmidt, president of Joplin, Mo.-based CFI, a Con-way company. “It’s a privilege to know that our work is valued and that our service is contributing to the success of the company. We look forward to continuing to work with them and to expanding our relationship in the future.”
United Sugars honored 20 vendors and carriers at the Fargo event. Criteria for the awards included number of loads, weights, delivery performance, responsiveness of operations and sales, invoicing accuracy, communication and lack of customer complaints.
“CFI has been an important carrier for us, particularly as we’ve expanded our business in Mexico,” says Lee Glass, director of transportation for United Sugars. “Their equipment, flexibility and communication are all exemplary, and that has led us to increase the loads we’ve shipped with them.”
CFI began its relationship with United Sugars in 2005. The company provides truckload service from seven facilities in Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota and Florida to retail and commercial businesses throughout the United States and Mexico. This year’s award marks the first time the Minnesota-based company has recognized CFI.
United Sugars Corp. was formed in January 1994 to market sugar for American Crystal Sugar Co., Southern Minnesota Beet Sugar and Minn-Dak Farmers Cooperative. U.S. Sugar Corp. joined the group five years later in 1999.
