ATA’s Security Council seeks 2008 award nominations

The Security Council of the American Trucking Associations announced today, Jan. 9, that nominations for the Security Council’s 2008 Excellence in Security Award and 2008 Security Professional of the Year Award now are being accepted.

The 2008 Excellence in Security Award, sponsored by Qualcomm, is the only nationally-recognized trucking security award that honors the company that sets the standard for excellence in the field of trucking security. Applicant’s security programs will be evaluated based on the scope and effectiveness of their security policies, procedures, training and records. ABF Freight won the 2007 Excellence in Security Award.

The 2008 Security Professional of the Year Award is a prestigious award presented to a security professional that demonstrated exemplary leadership and significantly contributed to their company’s security posture. Candidates are nominated by their company. Charles G. Williams, director of corporate security for J.B. Hunt Transport, won the 2007 Security Professional of the Year Award.

Both awards will be presented at the Security Council’s 2008 Trucking Security and Law Enforcement Conference and Exhibition being held April 29-May 1 in Long Beach, Calif. Award recipients also are recognized at the 2008 ATA Management Conference & Exhibition and through a press release. The deadline for entry is April 1.
