Old Dominion Freight Line has elected John D. Kasarda as director, effective immediately, the Business Journal of the Greater Triad Area reported. Kasarda will be filling the unexpired term left vacant when W. Chester Evans III resigned from the board effective Oct. 15.

Kasarda is the Kenan Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship and director of the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise at UNC-Chapel Hill. His areas of expertise include transportation, supply-chain management, logistics, commercial real estate and economics.

As a non-employee director, Kasarda will receive an annual retainer and per-meeting fees for attendance at board and committee meetings.

Old Dominion is a less-than-truckload carrier based in Thomasville, N.C.
