Prime Inc., North America’s largest refrigerated carrier, has selected Right Weigh to outfit its entire fleet of Class 8 trucks and trailers. The Springfield, Mo.-based carrier also announced its 2007 Drivers of the Year.

Prime currently is using Right Weigh’s exterior mounted scale model 310-54 to monitor its trailer weights, and the interior dash model 510-46 for its tractors. “Prime is a driver-focused company, and while Right Weigh’s scales are providing a strong return on investment for the company, they are also directly benefiting our drivers,” says Paul Higgins, Prime’s plaza director.

With more than 3,500 Right Weigh scales already in use fleetwide, Prime is continuing to retrofit its existing tractors and trailers, while all new trailers come equipped with Right Weigh scales installed at the factory.

“We have been working with Prime for almost two years now, but we waited on making a public announcement until we could demonstrate that a fleet of this size could truly benefit from our scales,” says Scott McCulloch, director of communications and business development for Sherwood, Ore.-based Right Weigh. “It says a lot to have a customer like Prime installing your product, but it says a lot more when you can actually show that it’s working for them.”

Prime’s 2007 Drivers of the Year are:

  • Refrigerated Division Solo Independent Contractor: Victor Blackburn
  • Refrigerated Division Team Independent Contractor: David and Barbara Call
  • Refrigerated Division Company Driver: Robert Davis
  • Flatbed Division Independent Contractor: Paul Davis
  • Tanker Division Independent Contractor: Greg Owens
  • Dispatchers and supervisors from each of Prime’s five divisions voted for the recipients from among the company’s 4,000 independent contractors and company drivers.
