IFTA grace period continues through February

The International Fuel Tax Agreement recently posted its annual grace period announcement. Until the end of February, a carrier may safely display on its interstate vehicles (1) a full set of 2008 IFTA credentials issued by its base state, (2) a full set of 2007 IFTA credentials, or (3) a valid IFTA trip permit.

The states and provinces that are members of IFTA require annual renewal of IFTA licenses and decals at the first of the year. However, because of the difficulty that large motor carrier operations have of getting the credentials distributed to every vehicle — especially when the base state may have been slow if getting them to the carrier — IFTA allows a two-month grace period for displaying the new year’s credentials.
