The American Trucking Associations announced today, Feb. 6, that it is seeking nominations for professional truck drivers to serve on the 2009-2010 America’s Road Team. Sponsored by Volvo Trucks North America, America’s Road Team is a national public outreach program led by a small group of professional truck drivers who share superior driving skills, remarkable safety records and a strong desire to spread the word about safety on the highway.
“America’s Road Team truly represents the best of the best,” says Bill Graves, ATA president and chief executive officer. “The drivers selected to serve as captains have impressive driving records and unmatched enthusiasm for their job and for the industry. I encourage the trucking community to nominate professional drivers they feel embodies the Road Team message of safety.”
For the past 21 years, America’s Road Team captains have traveled the country educating millions on the importance of safety, the essentiality of the industry and the need for pride and professionalism within trucking. America’s Road Team captains appear at events ranging from driver safety meetings to National Truck Driving Championships to promote the Road Team message that “Safety is our Driving Concern.”
“The public face of the trucking industry is our drivers,” says Scott Kress, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Volvo Trucks North America. “Given the challenges our industry sees today, it is critically important that the U.S. trucking industry once again come forward with its best people to form the next America’s Road Team. As sponsor of America’s Road Team, Volvo salutes these drivers, who demonstrate a professionalism and a dedication to safety that inspires us all. Volvo also salutes their employers, who show their commitment to safety and industry image by supporting the large investment of time required to be a Road Team Captain.”
