Exel Transportation Services — an operating unit of Exel, a North American provider of supply chain management and a Deutsche Post World Net company — recently was honored with a 2007 Capture Excellence Award by Datacap, a provider of flexible capture and forms processing software solutions.

ETS — which provides third-party transportation brokerage and intermodal services via its network of more than 70 independent offices — received the award in the “Excellence in Invoices” category. After implementing Datacap’s Taskmaster for Invoices software in 2007, ETS says it realized substantial cost and time savings. The software optically reads invoices and automatically pulls relevant data, including vendors, invoice amounts and purchase order numbers. Previously, manual data entry was the only way to capture this necessary information.

“We strive to seek out and implement best-in-class solutions for our business that optimize time and minimize costs,” says Jim Damman, president of Westerville, Ohio-based ETS. “In this case, Taskmaster and Datacap helped our invoicing process evolve from tedious data entry to optical scanning. The system helped us reduce labor costs and processing time by 50 percent.”
