Penske Truck Leasing recently presented Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. with its Outstanding Achievement Award for 2007, a first for a tire supplier. The Akron, Ohio-based tire company also received Penske’s Tire Supplier of the Year award, its eighth consecutive.

“This recognition is significant for us,” says Steve McClellan, Goodyear’s vice president of commercial tire systems. “We’ve worked hard to develop innovative products and business tools that help lower Penske’s tire cost-per-mile, as well as grow our service footprint to better serve Penske trucks as they travel North American highways.”

Goodyear supplies Reading, Pa.-based Penske with a variety of truck tires, including replacement and retreads, as well as tire services. “The company also has provided more than 12,000 hours of training for Penske to enhance fleet tire maintenance,” McClellan says. “In addition, Goodyear nationwide surveys helped Penske reduce tire-related emergency service calls by 38 percent last year.”
