Volvo Trucks’ worldwide deliveries during January amounted to 8,971 vehicles, up 15 percent compared with 7,786 during the year-earlier period. The demand in Europe remains high, and January deliveries increased 32 percent to 5,112 from 3,880, the truck maker said.

The total Asian market shows increasing deliveries in January as well, up 47 percent compared with the year-earlier period, driven by strong demand in the Middle East. January deliveries in Asia were 828, up from 562 a year ago.

The North American market is still weakened by the U.S. economic downturn and shows a 15 percent decline in January deliveries. In January, Volvo recorded 2,204 truck deliveries in North America, down from 2,604 during the year-ago period.
