Vanguard National Trailer Corp. unveiled two new products at the Mid-America Trucking Show in Louisville, Ky. – a converter dolly and 28-foot trailers.

“Vanguard is the only producer of converter dollies that galvanizes as a standard,” said Bob Taylor, Vanguard director of trailer sales. “And we’ve had significant interest in the 28-foot trailers because they include the same premium standard features and galvanized components as our 53-foot-trailers.”

Vanguard says the triples-rated converter dolly features:

  • A frame galvanized via a one-piece hot-dipped process for maximum protection against corrosion;
  • A frame made from a single beam that runs from the drawbar eye to the rear, eliminating frame flex;
  • A single beam that is an I beam rather than a C channel for better strength;
  • A frame built modularly for easier replacement of components and removal of damaged parts;
  • Counterbalancing for easier maneuvering and trouble-free coupling;
  • A fifth wheel with bolted construction for easy maintenance; and
  • Openings for easy access to air system and ABS.
  • The 28-foot trailers feature:

  • Galvanized components, including rear frame and gussets, impact guard and adapter, unitized forklift package, landing gear mounting brackets and cross bracing, coupler front apron, pickup plate, front bulkhead (interior), interior logistics posts and scuff liner, mudflap brackets, and air and electrical channels;
  • A 100-inch interior width;
  • 110-inch height;
  • Optional racking to increase load capacity;
  • 1-3/8 laminated oak flooring; and
  • Sheet and post or composite sidewalls.
  • Vanguard also announced an optional “pultruded” composite floor that is lighter weight and more moisture-resistant. Officials said this type flooring can reduce the weight of a 53-foot trailer by as much as 700 pounds.
