North Carolina lifts truck-length restrictions

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has lifted truck-length restrictions on about 1,900 miles of road in the state. Only 48-foot trailers had been allowed on those roads, even though 53-foot trailers are the industry standard.

The change was in response to a Feb. 25 directive from the North Carolina Attorney General’s office, saying the state’s truck route restrictions were stricter than federal law allowed.
