National Retail Systems Inc., a provider of logistics services to America’s retailers, announced that it has joined the SmartWay Transport Partnership formed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. NRS says it was recognized by EPA for environmental performance above the industry standard, utilizing many of the most current fuel-saving strategies and efficiencies.

“Our customers are focused on providing the best products to the American consumer at affordable prices and in the most environmentally-sensitive way possible,” says Francis Walsh III, executive vice president of Secaucus, N.J.-based NRS. “We support their efforts in every way.”

SmartWay is a collaborative program between EPA and the freight industry designed to increase energy efficiency while significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. It aims to achieve fuel savings of up to 150 million barrels of fuel per year. The Partnership currently has more than 450 members.
