Cadec Global customer Morning Star has implemented Cadec’s advanced fleet management software in an effort to eliminate paperwork from its delivery process, improve safety, reduce costs, and ease Department of Transportation (DOT) audits.

Morning Star is a leading tomato processor, accounting for over 25 percent of California’s tomato processing. The company supplies 40 percent of the U.S. tomato paste and diced tomato ingredient markets, with sales of approximately $350 million.

Morning Star was driven to explore fleet management software by two main factors: a need to improve driver productivity through reducing paperwork, and a desire for increased safety. They ultimately selected Cadec based on its ability to provide portable units for trucks, the ease with which its software could be integrated with Morning Star’s existing technology infrastructure, and the knowledge and experience of the Cadec team.

“Cadec was a one-stop shop that had everything we wanted,” says Mike Reuter, Transportation and Logistics Manager for Northern California at Morning Star. “Seeing demonstrations of the various packages really brought that home for us.”

Paul Pimentel, Reuter’s peer covering Southern California, says he was most impressed by the safety benefits of Cadec’s solution. “Safety is a major concern for Morning Star,” he says. “So Cadec’s ability to monitor safety-related factors like speed, sudden decels and off-route driving was very appealing to us, and their GYR report in particular is fantastic -I haven’t seen anything like it from any other vendor.”

Cadec’s GYR report – for Green, Yellow and Red – enables fleet managers to track safety factors for individual drivers, calculate weighted scores, and then display them graphically as a driver scorecard. Morning Star uses the data to determine where remedial training might be required (drivers with Yellow or Red scores) and to calculate bonuses associated with safe driving. The company anticipates that safer driving will help it reduce repair and maintenance costs by 50 percent.
