Greatwide Logistics Services has announced that its Dedicated Transport business unit has been named Wal-Mart’s Outbound Grocery Carrier of the Year for 2007. Greatwide was the first dedicated contract carrier to serve Wal-Mart with refrigerated transportation services when it entered the grocery business in 1993.

Award selection criteria included service level, service flexibility, proactive communication and innovative transportation solutions. Greatwide says that at 99.89 percent, its service level for 2007 represents achievement of Six Sigma performance. Greatwide’s Dedicated Transport business unit operates a fleet of more than 4,000 trucks, largely provided by owner-operators.

“For most companies, Six Sigma is an aspiration, but in this case, our team that delivers for Wal-Mart every day is living the reality.” says Ray Greer, chief executive officer of Dallas-based Greatwide Logistics. “We work very hard to customize our operations to meet the needs of our customers, and it’s an honor of the highest degree to be recognized by a supply chain innovator like Wal-Mart.”

Greatwide is owned by Investcorp, a global provider and manager of alternative investment products that also owns Randall-Reilly Publishing, publisher of CCJ.
