TODAY’S TIP: Independents are responsible for their own registrations. Leased owner-operators have the option of doing it themselves or letting the company they are leased to handle it. Generally, the company deducts the cost from the driver’s settlements. That’s easier, but not necessarily wiser, because if you get your plate through the carrier, you must leave it behind if you leave the carrier.
