Saddle Creek Transportation Inc., a subsidiary of Lakeland, Fla.-based third-party logistics services company Saddle Creek Corp., has implemented the Global Locating System (GLS) asset tracking technology from SkyBitz to provide enhanced security for its customers’ high-value shipments.

Although Saddle Creek already had an analog-based trailer tracking system, the upcoming Federal Communications Commission (FCC)-mandated switch to digital technology left the company with two choices: upgrade its incumbent system to digital or switch to another provider. Saddle Creek ultimately selected the SkyBitz GLS 210 untethered mobile technology to gain additional security enhancements and increased functionality.

“We were able to install SkyBitz units on 100 trailers at three different sites and be up and running in just two weeks,” said Mike DelBovo, senior vice president of Saddle Creek Transportation. “The SkyBitz team ensured that all of our associates on every shift were promptly trained on how to use the Web portal and all the system functionality.”

The SkyBitz technology complements Saddle Creek’s overall security value proposition for its customers’ high-value shipments, the company says.
