Doonan Specialized Trailer — a manufacturer of highly specialized steel platform trailers, including custom flatbeds, drop decks and double drops — announced that it has acquired the assets of Chaparral Manufacturing, a producer of all-aluminum platform trailers. Terms were not announced.

Based in Moundridge, Kan. Chaparral Manufacturing produced about 400 trailers in 2007. Doonan, based in Great Bend, Kan., produced more than 700 units in 2007. “The addition of the Chaparral brand allows us to provide our customers with a complete product offering of all-steel and all-aluminum flatbeds, drop decks and double-drop trailers,” says Elgen Reynolds, co-manager of Doonan.

The relocation of Chaparral’s Moundridge facility will be complete by the end of May, says Mike Gordy, co-manager of Doonan. “We are truly excited that 30 percent of the Chaparral team will join us in this transition,” Gordy says.
