American Background Information Services Inc. — a provider of employment screening services that enhance the safety, security and efficiency of the workplace — says its recently launched comprehensive Department of Transportation suite of services are designed specifically to support clients in the transportation sector.

ABI says its DOT services provide employers with effective time-saving employment screening solutions that focus on the trucking and other industries subject to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, particularly 49 CFR Parts 40, 382 and 391; these regulations include DOT-mandated drug and alcohol testing programs, evaluation of driver qualifications, and eligibility to perform safety-sensitive duties.

ABI, based in Winchester, Va., says its comprehensive DOT-compliant services include:

  • Commercial Drivers’ License Information System (CDLIS) search;
  • Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) searches (pre-employment & annual);
  • Previous employment and safety performance history verification;
  • Drug and alcohol testing history verification;
  • Breath alcohol screening, including random selection; and
  • Urine drug screening, including random selection.
  • To help reduce the burden placed on DOT-regulated employers and their safety departments or designated employee representatives, ABI also is offering DOT Risk Scoring services designed to allow the employer to evaluate the screening elements that potentially could disqualify an applicant or employee from operating a commercial motor vehicle or performing other safety-sensitive duties. As a result, clients are able to prioritize and manage their responsibilities efficiently to ensure compliance with DOT requirements, ABI says.
