J.J. Keller & Associates has introduced Injury Prevention for Drivers, an industry-specific prevention-based training program designed to provide drivers with information to help them stay injury-free while performing nondriving tasks.

Injury Prevention for Drivers, which promotes safety in and around the vehicle, covers basic how-to information on avoiding slips, trips and falls while on the job. It also addresses how to avoid sprains, cuts, pinches, abrasions and lacerations, as well as how to avoid back injuries. The program further covers how to avoid becoming pinned or crushed by cargo and how to safely work outdoors in extreme heat and cold conditions. The program helps raise drivers’ awareness to injury issues while stressing the driver’s role in prevention. It also reviews the causes of driver injuries: unsafe acts and conditions, human error, environmental factors and “whole body vibration” (i.e., sitting in the cab seat for extended periods).

At the core of the program is a 22-minute closed-captioned DVD that features chapter selections, hazard perception challenge scenarios, a review, professional commentary, a message for management, and a quiz to reinforce key information. Along with the DVD, the program includes a discussion guide with helpful training tips; 11 driver action cards that review key points covered in the training; an awareness poster to remind drivers of key concepts; and a trainer tools CD-ROM which includes a PowerPoint presentation that can be used as is or customized, along with handouts, quizzes, clip art, poster and a training log.
