Xata Corp., a provider of fleet optimization software to the private and for-hire segments of the trucking industry, announced Wednesday, July 9, that shipments of Xatanet systems in the third quarter of fiscal 2008 have grown about 278 percent compared to the same quarter of fiscal 2007, up from the 43 percent increase reported in the second quarter of fiscal 2008.

The Minneapolis-based company also reported the addition of 15 new Xatanet customers in its third fiscal quarter of 2008, bringing the cumulative total of new Xatanet customers in fiscal 2008 to 53.

Growth in customer wins and system sales has been driven by increased pressures on trucking margins, which include the rising cost of fuel and demands for regulatory compliance, according to the company. Xata says its Web-based software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution, Xatanet, provides fleet managers with anywhere/anytime access to their vehicle data, as well as a comprehensive suite of reports that help maintain fuel efficiency, safe operations and regulatory compliance.
