Freightliner Trucks on Monday, July 28, announced the availability of high-visibility seat belts as a factory-installed option on the Cascadia, Columbia, Century Class S/T and M2. Manufactured by LifeGuard Technologies, the seat belts now are available to order.

According to Freightliner, the bright orange high-visibility seat belts include comfort features such as Komfort Latch, designed to reduce seat belt irritation by relieving tension so the belt doesn’t rub the driver’s shoulder while driving; and the Sliding Komfort Latch, designed to automate the process of relieving seat belt tension, while safely setting the seat belt’s slack to about one inch.

“We want to give owner-operators and fleet owners the right tools to safe practices on the road,” says Melissa Clausen, director of product marketing for Portland, Ore.-based Freightliner Trucks. “Safety is a priority not only to Freightliner Trucks, but to the entire transportation industry.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drivers who wear their seat belts are nearly twice as likely to survive an accident. High-visibility seat belts allow fleet managers and law enforcement officers to quickly identify whether drivers are wearing their seat belts, while encouraging consistent use, Freightliner says.

The Click, Tug & Snug, driver safety campaign developed by LifeGuard Technologies aims to increase driver awareness of proper seat belt usage, with specific instructions on how to make the seat belt more comfortable.
