Perkins Logistics — a provider of specialized transportation services for the office furniture, retail product and store fixture, medical, home cabinet and tradeshow exhibit industries — announced John Knight as the director of its new Transportation Management Solutions operation. Knight will take over the new operation effective Aug. 18.

In his new position helming Perkins Logistics’ new business unit, Knight will build and maintain a selected and screened core carrier group (full-service and power-only) in the specialized freight market. He’ll also build a final-mile network for liftgate services such as inside delivery, set-up, de-install and removal. In addition, Knight will work closely with other integrated Perkins operations and key personnel to ensure that all company brokerage operations are standardized across the line.

Knight brings extensive expertise to Perkins Logistics in the areas of brokerage operations and fleet management. He has held positions of leadership ranging from general manager to vice president of operations with organizations such as Roberson Transportation Services, H&W Trucking and Atlas Van Lines. In his most recent employment, Knight implemented a startup brokerage operation that resulted in sales for the company of more than $14 million in less than two years.

“We’re excited to have John on board and heading this important new initiative for Perkins Logistics,” says Andy Card, owner and chief executive officer of Noblesville, Ind.-based Perkins Logistics. “His experience in running cost-effective and service-oriented operations without sacrificing productivity or on-time delivery is of great value to us. We believe with the addition of John we’ll be able to offer a more complete line of services for the specialized markets we serve.”
