The Truckload Carriers Association and CarriersEdge launched the inaugural “Best Fleets to Drive For” contest at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas.

The nomination-based program will identify and celebrate the top employers in the North American for-hire trucking industry. Winners will be announced at the TCA Annual Convention in March 2009.

All fleets with 10 trucks or more are eligible to participate. To be included, fleets must be nominated by at least one of their drivers. Nominated fleets will be evaluated in a number of categories, including driver compensation, pension and benefits, professional development, driver and community support and safety record, among others.

“Too many people think the trucking industry is nothing but dead-end jobs and unethical employers,” says Mark Murrell, president of CarriersEdge. “This survey offers a platform for setting the record straight — showcasing the great employers out there and publicizing their best practices.”

Nominations will be accepted up to Nov. 30. For more information, go to www.bestfleetstodrivefor.com.

TCA also announced it is accepting nominations for its Owner-Operator of the Year and Company Equipment Driver of the Year contests. TCA has acquired the sponsorship to again offer a new Dodge pickup with a Cummins-powered engine for the Company Equipment Driver of the Year winner. The Owner-Operator of the Year winner receives a new International tractor. For more information, go to www.truckload.org/winatruck.
