Sterling Truck Corp. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, announced the availability of the Eaton Fuller UltraShift Highway Value (HV) 6-speed transmission as an option for all Sterling Acterra trucks.
“Fuel economy is more important than ever to our customers,” says Richard Shearing, manager of product strategy for Redford, Mich.-based Sterling Trucks. “By partnering with Eaton to include its UltraShift HV in our popular Acterra model, we are providing enhanced fuel efficiency combined with the strength and drivability expected from our trucks.”
A fully automated transmission system for Class 6-7 vehicles, the UltraShift HV combines the reliability and durability of a manual Fuller 6-speed transmission with automated shifting logic, Eaton says. Suited for pickup-and-delivery, service, utility and recovery applications, the UltraShift HV can handle torque capabilities up to 660 pounds per foot and loads up to 33,000 pounds gross vehicle weight, according to the company.
To help improve on safety and flexibility, the transmission’s Hill Assist feature is designed to automatically minimize rollback and roll-forward on grades ranging from three to 10 percent while the driver transitions from brake pedal to throttle. The transmission also offers lifecycle cost savings, with no scheduled maintenance for 500,000 miles, including filter and lube changes, Eaton says. Also, the UltraShift HV is designed to operate without an external transmission cooler, reducing the overall weight of the truck.
