Waltco Truck Equipment Co. recently announced it will consolidate manufacturing operations at the company’s primary manufacturing facility in Tallmadge, Ohio, also the site of company headquarters. All warehousing of liftgates and parts, along with sales operations, will continue without change at the company’s facility in Gardena, Calif.

Both salaries and hourly employees will be impacted by the consolidation, according to the company. Waltco and union officials at the Gardena facility will be working out the details of a severance package for its bargaining unit members.

In recent years, the company has invested in new technology at the Tallmadge plant, including advances in robotic fabrication, powder-coating technology, new CNC lathes, vertical CNC machining centers and plasma-cutting capabilities. Tallmadge also is the site of the company’s engineering group.

Waltco says these factors, as well as current economic conditions, led to the decision to consolidate manufacturing operations.
