Qualcomm Inc., a provider of business-to-business wireless enterprise applications and services, and Navistar Inc. today, Sept. 10, announced an alliance to deliver Qualcomm’s Mobile Computing Platform (MCP) installed on Navistar’s trucks beginning in the fall.

Under the agreement, Navistar dealers will resell Qualcomm’s MCP throughout the United States. The companies say the collaboration will enable Navistar customers to purchase International brand trucks with the MCP installed by the dealer, making it easier to access Qualcomm’s OmniVision Transportation services.

“This alliance is a milestone for both Qualcomm and Navistar, and our customers will reap many benefits from this combined offering,” says Norm Ellis, vice president of transportation and logistics sales and service for Qualcomm Enterprise Services. “Trucking companies will now have expanded access to our OmniVision Transportation suite of services, and customers can take advantage of the added support they get from a combined International dealer and Qualcomm customer support network.”

Qualcomm says OmniVision Transportation services enhance safety, efficiency and productivity while improving the in-cab experience and quality of life for drivers. Delivered via Qualcomm’s in-cab hardware, software and network infrastructure, OmniVision Transportation services facilitate the delivery of two-way data communications and value-added services to enterprises.

Designed for the transportation and logistics industry, OmniVision Transportation services incorporate industry-specific capabilities and features designed to integrate seamlessly with back-office systems. The MCP features an integrated color touchscreen and remote-control device with in-cab text-to-speech capability designed to improve safety and productivity by allowing drivers to listen and replay messages, eliminating the need to pull over and stop the vehicle to read a text message, Qualcomm says OmniVision Transportation services are backed by its network reliability and redundancy, customer service and 24/7 support.
