Cummins Inc. announced Monday, Sept. 22, that it has been selected as the engine of choice for Wegmans Food Markets Inc. Cummins says the order of 101 ISX-powered trucks signifies the importance of industry-leading fuel economy for Wegmans.

Cummins says that when Wegmans began to consider options for replacement trucks in its fleet, a number of factors made the list, including fuel economy, durability and reliability. Cummins ISX engines with cooled-EGR technology, VG turbo and Cummins aftertreatment run more efficiently while significantly reducing emissions, according to the company.

“Cummins is delighted to have been selected as the engine of choice by Wegmans.” says Jeff Jones, vice president of sales and market communications for Columbus, Ind.-based Cummins. “We are confident that our ISX engines will provide Wegmans with the industry-leading fuel economy our customers have come to expect, while contributing to a cleaner environment.”

The Cummins ISX 15L engines are produced at the Jamestown engine plant in Lakewood, N.Y. The 101 Cummins 15L ISX 500-horsepower engines will be delivered to Wegmans by the fall of this year and will comprise nearly 60 percent of its fleet. Wegmans intends to replace the remainder of the older trucks in its fleet by 2010.
