The Federal Highway Administration has granted approval of a plan to temporarily close segments of two interstates to all traffic except buses and authorized vehicles — I-395, between the Capital Beltway and the District of Columbia; and I-66, between the Capital Beltway and the D.C. line — on Tuesday, Jan. 20, beginning at 12 a.m. ET for one consecutive 24-hour period because of the presidential inauguration.

The request by the Virginia Department of Transportation — which was published Thursday, Jan. 15, in the Federal Register — was made for the purposes of safety and security in and around the District of Columbia and as a complementary piece of the D.C. DOT traffic management plan.
