The National Shippers Strategic Transportation Council recently announced the recipients of its 2009 Carriers of the Year, an annual program that recognizes transportation providers on a quantitative scale in five key areas: customer service, operational excellence, pricing, business relationship, and leadership in technology.

This year, NASSTRAC regular members who are qualified buyers of transportation services graded carriers they use in those key areas on a 4-point scale in the following categories based upon regional scope and capabilities: national truckload, parcel, expedited and less-than-truckload.

NASSTRAC recognized Werner Enterprises as its National Truckload Carrier of the Year. “We are very honored to receive this award,” says Derek Leathers, chief operating officer and president of Werner Global Logistics. “It further demonstrates our commitment to delivering best-in-class global transportation and logistics solutions for our customers.”

NASSTRAC recognized Express-1 as its Expedited Carrier of The Year. “It is especially gratifying, as this award is based on the input of the shippers,” says Jeff Curry, president of Express-1. “An award determined by the customer is the ultimate compliment to our team. This award indicates that our pursuit of being the number-one expedited carrier in the country is on track.”

The carriers will accept their awards at the 2009 NASSTRAC Annual Conference and Logistics Expo. NASSTRAC is an organization for transportation professionals that provides advocacy, education, provider relationships and peer networking.

“Through this award, NASSTRAC has been encouraging the high performance of carriers for years,” says Eric Morley, director of logistics for Best Buy Co. and NASSTRAC’s current president. “NASSTRAC leverages this annual awards program to continually promote performance excellence in various market segments of transportation.”
