Alabama metal coil securement certification required June 1

user-gravatar Headshot

All drivers hauling metal coil in Alabama are required to be certified on coil securement by June 1. The Alabama rule applies only to loads that initiate or terminate in the state. The certification requires knowledge of the proper load securement technique as defined in Title 49 CFR 393.120.

Fines are severe, with penalties starting at $5,000 and ranging up to $10,000 per incident. Drivers must complete a “Securing Metal Coils Course” through the website www.metalcoiltraining.com and obtain a copy of the certificate and keep it in the vehicle when hauling metal coils. The driver also needs to provide all motor carriers that they haul for with a copy of the signed certificate.
