Engine makers have chosen two different paths to meet the 2010 emissions regulations: selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and enhanced exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), and there’s a great deal of interest – and some confusion – in the market about these new technologies. Fleets and owner-operators attending the Great American Trucking Show will get answers to all of their questions during the 2010 Engine Super Sessions and Ride and Drive, held Thursday, Aug. 20, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Dallas Convention Center.

The 2010 Engine Super Sessions will kick off with a panel discussion, “Two Roads to 2010,” featuring experts from leading engine makers discussing how their specific technology will meet customers’ needs in terms of fuel economy, cost, maintenance and driver acceptance.

The second session, “Operational aspects of 2010 engines,” will discuss what will change from the driver’s perspective, including dashboard and engine performance alerts, maintenance issues and the impact of onboard diagnostics.

The third session, “Ins and outs of diesel exhaust fluid,” will address the properties of DEF, as well as its cost, consumption levels, infrastructure and recommendations for storage and handling.

At the conclusion of the Engine Super Sessions, attendees will be able to step off the show floor and into the cabs of trucks equipped with 2010 engine technologies. GATS will be one of the only places where fleets and owner-operators can see, test-drive and compare the new engines firsthand – before 2010. Attendees also will be able to meet individually with engine makers should they have additional questions.
