YRC Inc., a subsidiary of YRC Worldwide Inc., announced the YRC Shipment Protection program designed to protect shipments that have the potential to freeze during transport. The company says the program features two levels of service — Freezable Protection and Insulated Covers — that allow customers with freezable products, such as chemicals, bottled beverages, pharmaceuticals and flower bulbs, to ship with confidence.

Freezable Protection uses special handling procedures, weather monitoring and indicators in the YRC tracking system to protect freezable shipments. As an optional extra level of protection, more than 14,000 technically-engineered environmentally-friendly Insulated Covers are available throughout the YRC network to insulate drums, pallets and totes.

“With a 99.8 percent claim-free rate for cold-temperature sensitive shipments, our experienced service professionals at YRC understand the importance of reliability — ensuring products arrive on time, safely and in optimal condition,” says Mike Smid, president of YRC Inc. and chief operations officer of YRC Worldwide, based in Overland Park, Kan. “The YRC Shipment Protection program and our portfolio of other solutions meet these demands and more.”

Freezable Protection is available year-round, with pickups Monday through Friday for all direct service points in the continental United States, Canada and Mexico. Insulated Cover pickups are available from Nov. 1 through April 15, with pickups Monday through Friday for all direct service points in the continental United States and Canada. In addition to standard operating procedures in transit, “warm rooms” are used over the weekend as necessary to protect freezable shipments.
