PeopleNet, a provider of integrated onboard computing and mobile communications systems for fleet management, announced that Heartland Express has chosen PeopleNet as the mobile communications provider for their truckload fleet. The Iowa-based provider of dry van truckload transport will replace thier current mobile communications systems and move their total vehicle fleet to the PeopleNet onboard computing platform.

With PeopleNet onboard its 3,200 tractors, Heartland Express will electronically monitor hours of service (PeopleNet eDriver Logs) to support compliance, monitor vehicle and driver performance, and strengthen the integration between their onboard computing system and back office platforms. Heartland’s plans include the utilization of Vusion, PeopleNet’s predictive data analytics capabilities to drive more effective decisions from the onboard data.

“Integrated mobile communications has become a vital part to being branded as one of the best service providers in trucking,” said Michael Gerdin, president of Heartland Express. “As our industry is ever challenged to respond to the increasing demands of regulation and service needs of our customers and drivers, we have never faltered in fighting to find ways to hold on to the service we provide and the low 80’s operation ratio we pursue.”
