PeopleNet, a provider of integrated onboard computing and mobile communications systems, announced that its Automated Workflow is now integrated with CAMS route optimization software to automate tracking of actual route delivery information.

“In addition to automating delivery of optimized routes to drivers, our new integration tracks actual arrival, departure and delays associated with each stop,” said Randy Boyles, PeopleNet vice president of tailored solutions. “Having planned vs. actual delivery information available in real time provides fleet managers greater visibility into driver/vehicle activities and helps them adjust allocation of driver and vehicle resources.”

A PeopleNet user with a CAMS back-office system can retrieve in real-time information about a driver’s route, including arrival and departure times, delays, travel time and mileage, the company says. As a result, drivers no longer have to spend time completing forms, and back-office personnel no longer have to enter data manually, which reduces errors.

“Our integration with PeopleNet adds a unique dimension to CAMS—arrival information. While departure information has been available through other integrations, the addition of arrival information through PeopleNet’s Automated Workflow application and geofences provides complete real-time trip progress information,” said David Gagnon, CAMS director of technology.

PeopleNet made the announcement at the International Food Distribution Association’s 2010 Distribution Solutions Conference and Exhibition being held October 26-27 at the Tampa Convention Center.
